Who is Julie MacDonald and why Fitness ?

Julie is a Mum of 2 living and practising fitness is the gorgeous coastal town of South Queensferry on the outskirts of Edinburgh.   Julie has always had a love of keep fit for many years attending gym classes and developed a love of running.   Keep Fit in Julie’s twenties was all about being physically fit but over the years that has changed.    After starting a family in her thirties keep fit became even more of a focus, a time for self-care and a way not only to release those feel-good endorphins but to look after her overall wellbeing – both physically and mentally.  It was a time for escapism whilst taking care of herself.  Fast forward to the COVID 19 pandemic and it was time for a change, to not just to partake in fitness to but take that step to the ultimate goal of teaching fitness.    With a background in teaching and being passionate about fitness and overall wellbeing Julie chose Pilates, an overall body workout that not only engages the body but also incorporates the mind and spirit.   During the lockdown attending Pilates classes became the ultimate selfcare escape enabling Julie to stay physically fit and look after her mental wellbeing too.    We were living with so much uncertainty with the pandemic, Pilates helped immensely to calm the mind, reduce stress, anxiety and provide a welcome regular reset from the chaos of 2020.    It was like having an MOT of the body’s muscles and joints whilst engaging the mind and it helped enormously to provide a better sense of overall wellbeing.     Oh and did we mention that Pilates is a great for exercise for all, including active agers………once invested in Pilates people can practise this well into their 90’s!!!! What a fantastic way to look after yourself in the here and now and invest in yourself for the future.

Fast forward and Julie has now qualified as a Group Exercise Instructor for HIIT and is currently studying Aqua Fit, Outdoor exercise, Pilates for Children and Coaching for Fitness.   And if that wasn’t enough, she hopes to be qualified for Exercise to Music by the end of 2021.
